The June bug has certainly bitten us, leaving us with a feverish need to be outside biking! And so far the first few days of June have delivered clear skies and plenty of sun to light up the roads and trails to keep us rolling.
To really kick-off the summer, the UA crew attended the 15th Annual Redbones Bike Party this past Monday night. Beer, Barbeque, and a whole lot of bikes in front of Redbones was a blast of an event. Tents spreading the word about their organization or shop included, ANT Bikes who provided the rad grand prize in the raffle of a custom cargo bike, NEMBA, Massbike, Geekhouse, Classico Cyclismo, Bikes-not-bombs, Hub Bike shop, Luna Chix, Pedros and of course we, Urban AdvenTours were giving out information as well.
The raffle prizes were endless, it took about an hour for all the prizes to be given out. A large portion of the prizes went to a couple who bought over a hundred tickets, but our very own UA member, Lauren won a gorgeous wool jersey by Earth, Wind and Rider. A few lucky ticket holders in the raffle won bikes by Redline, Giant and ANT.
Tuesday was the opening of another great event to keep the summer spirits high, and by that I mean one sugary high. For an entrance fee of $8, the Jimmy Fund’s Scooper Bowl in Government Center was giving out unlimited quantities of ice cream, sherbet, and gelato. The Scooper Bowl came in perfect timing for the little heat wave that has just hit Boston.
If you’ve decided to get ice cream all three days that the Scooper Bowl was opened, may we suggest you attend the Thursday night Urban AdvenTours and City Sports Ride Series? Meet us at our shop for 5:30pm and prepare to depart at 6pm for a 20-30 mile loop. The pace is athletic, but will not reach racing speeds. The loop ends at City Sports on Boylston Street.
And if Ben and Jerry are still taunting you, then head over to the Bikes not Bombs’ bike-a-thon and Green Roots Festival this Saturday. You have your choice of a 15 miler, 25 miler, or a 65 mile ride. Make sure you check out the Bikes not Bombs website for proper registration and departure times. After finishing your ride, then stick around the Stony Brook T stop, where the Green Roots festival and after party will be held. There will be music, games, food, and prizes, so if you don’t go because of looming Ben and Jerry, then go for the great cause the proceeds go towards.
That’s a lot for just the month of June. Stay tuned for even more upcoming bicycle events for next month. Parlez vous Francais? Anyone?
