Urban AdvenTours is Boston’s first and finest bicycle tour company and we take pride in offering the highest level of customer service from our tours to our bike shop. In general, applicants with experience biking Boston and customer service in a fast-paced work environment are encouraged to apply. While not strictly required, applicants should be familiar with the geography and layout of the greater Boston area, tourist attractions, and the basic history of the city. Those with foreign language skills are strongly encouraged to apply due to the nature of our customer base!

Tour Guides

If you love bikes and love cycling in Boston, then this is the perfect job for you. Share your passion with people from around the corner or around the world!

Basic Requirements:

  • A passion for biking in urban areas
  • Friendly, outgoing personality
  • Strong knowledge of the Boston streets and bike paths, and popular sites.
  • Customer service experience (not necessarily in tours)
  • Must be detail-oriented, with a willingness to take direction
  • Enthusiasm for our local historic sites and hidden treasures, and a desire to share that knowledge with others
  • Previous experience working as part of a team

Other details

  • Wages range from $10-$15/hour, plus tips; raises based on performance evaluations
  • Most guides work 20-40 hours per week
  • Must be available to work weekends, evenings are a plus
  • Applicants should be familiar with the Boston area, different attractions and navigating the city
  • Guides will be responsible for groups of 2-25 or more and must be able to safely lead and entertain our guests throughout the busy streets of Boston.

Dedicated, professional bike mechanics are the backbone of our business. Our rental fleet requires regular maintenance, and our customers deserve top-notch service on every visit.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Professional level bike service
  • Assisting with bike sales
  • Receiving tune-ups fully and properly
  • Maintenance of tour/rental bike fleet
  • Assisting with ordering and inventory management


  • At least 1 year shop experience as a mechanic
  • Ability to work on any bike, any time
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Floor sales experience is a plus

Customer Service: Bike Concierge

Our tour and rental customers rely on our concierge services to ensure they make the most of their time in Boston. Responsibilities Include:

  • 1st point of contact for customers: answers phones, greets all guests, responds to general questions, and routes other inquiries to appropriate staff members
  • Assists with the daily operation of tours and rentals
  • Give guests recommendations of our city and assist with directions
  • Interact in person and on the phone with a variety of guests, continuously ensuring a high level of professionalism
  • Maintain the organization and appearance of the space inside and out, including restocking and cleaning
  • Maintain organization and inventory of rental stock through proper notes and procedures
  • Ring up sales on POS system
  • Process bookings over the phone, in person, and online

Customer Service: Bike Shop Associate

We believe that every customer who walks in our door deserves the best service, whether they need service, a new bike, or are just picking out a pair of gloves. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist customers with bikes, accessories, and apparel
  • Detailed work order write-ups for bike repairs
  • Maintaining sales floor stock, pricing, and cleanliness
  • Ring up sales on POS system
  • Basic mechanical knowledge a must (flat fixes, basic operation of bicycle components). Willingness to learn more is a plus.
  • Prior bike shop experience is a plus, but not required.

Customer Service Assistants

As you may have guessed, there are a lot of moving parts in our business. We value our employees who are able to jump into any task at any time, and keep our operations moving smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities include:

  • Fit tour & rental customers on bikes, and provide riding advice when needed
  • Assisting tour guides with send-off and return of tours
  • Maintaining stock of promotional items & literature
  • Maintaining organization and cleanliness of outdoor working spaces

Management Positions

Our small management team is the key to Urban AdvenTours and we are always looking for the right candidates to help direct the business and lead staff. Experience supervising a team, multitasking, a familiarity with bikes and willingness to jump into any and all tasks is a must! Responsibilities for all managers include:

  • Shifts from 40 hours up to 55 hours/week depending on season
  • Some early mornings and late nights will be required
  • Must be able to work at least one weekend day
  • Opening and closing the shop
  • Directing employees and day-to-day operations
  • Handling escalated customer inquiries and complaints when necessary
  • Management candidates MUST have a current drivers’ license, and be confident driving in Boston.

We are looking for management candidates to start immediately in 2015. Candidates will be subject to a 60 to 90-day probation period on an hourly wage basis before being brought on salary.

Sales & Marketing

The Sales & Marketing manager will take charge of our outreach efforts towards private groups & the general public, through print, web, social media, and in-person marketing channels. Requirements for position:

  • Must have one or more years’ experience in a marketing position
  • Prior bike shop or tourism industry experience a major plus


  • Evaluate and act on marketing opportunities with input from team
  • Monitor UA’s representation in social media and in sales avenues such as reseller listings
  • Maintain and update social media on a regular basis: Facebook, Twitter, etc
  • Respond to everyday customer inquiries regarding private groups & events
  • Organize and execute guerilla marketing and outreach plans on a regular basis

Shop Manager

The Shop manager will be in charge of our retail floor and have oversight in our service department, manage inventory levels, and ensure customer satisfaction in each sale. Requirements for position:

  • At least one year experience in sales, preferably in a bike shop


  • Working with vendors to order supplies
  • Maintaining the sales shop inventory
  • Attending to specific customer inquiries
  • Making sure all work orders are written up clearly and passed on to the appropriate mechanic
  • Writing up weekly employee schedules
  • Training new staff members and ensuring their improved performance

Mobile Operations manager

The Mobile Operations manager operates mostly off-site and has some very specific requirements:

  • Must have current drivers’ license and a CLEAN driving record (CDL is a plus)
  • A current FMCSA medical certificate is a plus
  • Must be proficient in driving in Boston and able to drive vehicles of any size


  • Going to events (solo and with staff)
  • Delivering and picking up bikes from hotels, residencies, and offices
  • Assisting in the maintenance of hotel bike fleets with our mechanics
  • Attending charity rides & events
