Thursday’s Thoughts: Helmets and Cycling

A thought provoking article in the New York Times a few months back brings up the question, by not encouraging helmet usage do cycling numbers rise?

With Hubway exceeding expectations on number of rides, would Boston’s impressive 31% increase in cyclists from 2010 to 2012 be even more remarkable if we didn’t see things like the Boston Public Health Commission’s recent helmet campaign?

Helmet-less bikers do certainly lend a freer and more relaxed vision of cycling, but do you think the focus on helmets is hurting biking numbers in the US?

Regardless, get out there and keep riding!
