On July 29th, the CambridgeSide Galleria Mall is playing host to hundreds of Boston and Cambridge kids, ages 5-15, who will gallop and pedal furiously in and around the shopping center in the third annual Run & Ride duathlon. This year, Urban AdvenTours is one of the sponsors; we’ll provide 60 bikes for and staff a kiosk at the event.
Participants in each age group cover different distances. For tots ages 5-6 there is a nice quarter-mile scramble. Children ages 7-9 will run 0.4 miles, bike 0.7 miles, and then run another 0.4 miles. For the older participants, split into age groups 10-12 and 13-15, the race will begin with a 0.6 mile run, transition to a 1.1 mile bike ride, and then finish with another 0.6 mile run.
The event will be a great opportunity to get children outside and to introduce them to endurance athletics, and they’ll get to enjoy some friendly competition with kids their own age, too! CambridgeSide is right on the Charles River, between the historic Museum of Science and the beautiful Longfellow Bridge. There are prizes, T-shirts, and other goodies available for participants–and live entertainment and giveaways for the parents.
Registration for the event begins Sunday, July 29th at 8:30am. The first race goes off at 10am. We hope to see you there!
