Biking Boston with Kids
July 11, 2018
As Boston continues to become a more bike-friendly city for all cyclists, it’s gets better and better for families, too!
Riding a bike is efficient, economical, healthy, and an environmentally friendly way to have some fun with the kids around town. We particularly recommend the Charles River Esplanade as a great place to ride with kids — and we can show you a route to get there from the shop that is almost entirely on bike paths!
If you’re visiting Boston, we’ve got plenty of rental bikes and accessories to get the whole family on a bike!
We have 20″ and 24″ kids bikes available, as well as a variety of other options for younger riders:
|Child seat (ages 1-3, max 40lbs/18kg) – $25/day||Trail-a-bike (ages 4-10, max 75lbs/34kg) – $35/day||Burley Trailer (up to 2 children, max 100lbs/45kg) – $50/day|
Finally, here are some tips and tricks for riding with kids in the city:
- Wear a helmet! Children 16 and under are required by state law to wear helmets, and nobody wants to see their child harmed by a head injury. That’s why all Urban AdvenTours rentals come with a helmet included along with a lock, lights, and flat kit.
- Stick to the Paths. Especially for newer riders, we recommend sticking to separated bike paths as much as possible. Ask our staff for recommendations about where to ride.
- Follow the Rules. Over the course of the past few years, Boston has implemented the use of several bike lanes and special bike lights, these are to be followed at all times for the safety of cyclists and drivers alike.
