Greater Love Tabernacle’s mission statement is “A Church with A Heart for People” and in an effort to spread their message they will be hosting a Cycling for Peace Ride on June 29th from 10-4 pm. The ride covers 6 miles through parts of Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan. A community cookout accompanied by gospel music will take place at the end of the event outside of the Boys & Girls Club on Talbot Avenue. The summer season is associated with peaks in violence, a trend which this event hopes to curtail through its peaceful ride. This marks the 11th year for the event.

If you are interested in riding, our shop is happy to provide a same day rental rate of $20 for participants. Call ahead at 617.670.0637 to reserve your bike!

If you know someone living with Multiple Sclerosis you may be aware of how scary this disease can be and how necessary research is to finding the cure.

A very good family friend of mine is battling with MS. Quite honestly I didn’t know much about MS until she shared her diagnosis with our family. There is no cure for MS currently, making the disease very scary for anyone living with it. For that reason, research benefiting those living with MS is extremely important in helping them live their lives to the fullest. One day there could very well be a cure and your help could make the difference between someone living with MS and someone living without MS.

This year’s Bike MS: Cape Cod Getaway is from June 29th-30th. Spanning two days and covering 150 miles. This ride is the largest MS ride in New England with over 2000 riders last year.

Join the fight against MS by signing up for the Cape Cod Getaway or donating on their website.

Our Thursday night rides can help you get ready for the race. Come in and rent a road bike or ride your own. No one is left behind on this training ride!

The ride started in Washington State in 2008 but has since grown and expanded into Massachusetts. Proceeds go towards Web of Benefit and the Cycle the WAVE Foundation, which benefits domestic violence survivors.

At UA we strive to make every rider feel comfortable whether its their first time on a bike or they’ve been riding since childhood. As our efforts continue to grow we are expanding our shop to include a store focused on women, hoping to help more women enter the cycling lifestyle. I know I felt a little nervous walking into my first bike shop, so believe me when I say that UA can help you find the right bike and gear without feeling pressured.

Thursday night rides are available for anyone who wants more exposure to longer routes. No one is left behind and free road bike rentals are available if its your first time, so join us to try your hand at long distance.

Father’s Day is almost here! If you haven’t found anything for the guy who taught you how to ride a bike considering getting him something at our shop.

Gift certificates for tours are always available, you don’t even need to come into the shop if you are running low on time. Come in together and experience Boston in a whole new way with your Dad. Call us at 617.670.0637 and let us know what type of tour you want.

If your Dad is a cycling nut like us, we can help you find some cool bike accessories/gear he may be in need of.

For the minimum wage, college student, thoughtful yet broke kids: an “I Bike Boston” pint glass for $9. We also have I Bike (insert your neighborhood here) shirts for sale at $20 and I Bike Boston hoodies for $50. What Dad doesn’t need another one of these?

For the college grad, I have money but let’s not go crazy kids: cycling jerseys from our shop $90 give or take. All the guys in our shop think these are wicked cool; we have tons of different designs for whatever style your Dad is into (Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox, Gumby, Dr. Seuss, and other great designs).

For the kids who pool their money together, because each thinking of a gift is a little too much pressure: Rain pants for around $120. No one likes getting caught in the rain on their way to work so these are perfect for Dad to throw in his bag on cloudy days. Or how about bike shoes- help your Dad amp up his riding style by getting him bike shoes!

For the big money, big spender: A BIKE, so obvious we know. Treat your Dad to a new bike and basically blow his mind, the Father’s Day present of all Father’s Day. You can even ride it around beforehand to get a feel for how awesome this present is. We will wait to tell you the price until you come in…used road bikes are pretty great too.
Give your Dad a great Father’s Day, stop by the shop at 109 Atlantic Avenue for our gear or poke into tours & rentals to grab a tour certificate for both you and your Dad.

How often do you hear the phrase “it’s just like riding a bike?” You may remember the move from training wheels to two-wheels, the color of your first bike, and how cool it was to ride no hands, but many kids never have the chance to even learn how to ride a bike. For that reason, Urban AdvenTours is excited to talk about an amazing organization called Cycle Kids. Cycle Kids pairs the learning experience of riding a bike with literacy, nutritional education, and mentoring, in an effort to benefit children’s futures.

June 9th support Cycle Kids in their Breakaway 2013 ride! There are a bunch of routes to choose from depending on your skill level or interest: a 63-mile route, a 36-mile route, a 20-mile route, or a 5-mile family fun ride. Following your ride of choice there will be music, games, and a gourmet meal (including craft beer and wine!) in the deCordova Sculpture Park located in Lincoln, MA.

Join Cycle Kids as they try to help children reach their goals and set them on a path towards a bright future.

If you are interested in riding and want to join a group for practice beforehand, UA holds a Thursday night ride for anyone interested in improving or starting training! We also have road bikes for sale or rental, we can help size you and get you started with all the right gear.

Take a bike tour of urban apiaries across the greater Boston area, from downtown Boston to Mission including a group picnic at the Fenway Victory Gardens. The ride is Sunday, June 9th from 10am-4pm, and offers a great chance for people of all ages to learn more about honeybees and have a great time exploring a lesser-known side of Boston culture.

Honeybees play a huge role in our ecosystem, especially our food! This ride exposes you to the world of honeybees and teaches why these little animals are so vital and how we can ensure their survival. Last year the event was covered by The Boston Globe and had over 70 attendees.
Check them out the Boston Beekeepers on facebook for more information.
