Kick off Bike Month with Urban AdvenTours!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

As excited as we are for Boston and National Bike Week, we just couldn’t wait that long since all of May is Bike Month!

We’ll be celebrating this Sunday, May 2nd from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in our favorite park right across the street, Christopher Columbus Park.

So come on down to the North End and grab a free Sunday morning coffee from Equal Exchange. They’ll be hanging out along with our favorite bike buddies from MassBike, Boston Bikes and Livable Streets Alliance. All of our partners will have information about how to get more involved in the cycling community and well as information about bicyclist education and rider rights. Getting more people out on bikes safely and confidently is part of our mission and the first step is knowing the rules of the road. These exhibitors have some of the best resources for rider education and road user rights, so come meet them!

We’ll also have goodies from some of our favorite bike friendly businesses. For times when two wheels aren’t enough ZipCar can hook you up with car sharing, and they’ve even got eco-friendly hybrids to help you keep it green. There will also be some bite sized treats from Clifbar, so you can keep your energy up on your next epic ride.

In case that isn’t enough to get you out, we’ll be displaying our new line of bikes for your inspection. We’ll have a kid sized obstacle course race at 12 PM, a track stand competition at 2 PM and prizes from the Urban AdvenTours apparel closet. Sound good? See you Sunday!

As we cycle through spots of rain and sun today, we’re also getting folks ready to cycle alongside those running the Boston Marathon tomorrow. Heartbreak Hill is a good deal easier to do with 24 gears instead of two legs, but that’s just our biker bias.

The UA crew wishes all you runners out there the best of luck tomorrow. Come visit us for some cool down after the race and keep your eyes out for some cool photos up on the blog a little later this week.

All thawed out and ready to go!

Bring on the sunshine!

It’s an unusually sunny and hot day for early April, but you won’t find any complaints here. It’s officially bike weather and there couldn’t be any better way to celebrate than opening of our new show room at 109 Atlantic Ave.

We’re authorized dealers for Giant, Masi and Kona and we’ve got great bikes from each of them ranging from city cruisers to full suspension mountain bikes, fixed gears to high performance road bikes. We’ve also got a full line of accessories and components from pedals and straps to bar tape and bells.

Tours and rentals started off with a bang last weekend. We rode with Californians, Spaniard, United Kingdomers, as well as folks from right here in the North End. We’re always happy to show off Boston’s local flavor, especially to brand new Bostonians!

So come check out the new space, test ride the new bikes and get ready for a whole new cycling season with the Urban AdvenTours Crew.
