Biking into a tax free weekend!

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Looking to buy a bike? Now is the time.

In case you haven’t heard, this weekend in Massachusetts is tax free. That’s right–no tax on any goods you buy on Saturday or Sunday, August 14 and 15. To sweeten the deal of no tax, Urban AdvenTours is offering an extra discount on top of the tax free holiday. We will match the tax rate discount of 6.25% on any bike or accessory in the store. So that’s an extra 10-20% off* of anything in the shop! What better time to buy a bike or that Chrome bag you’ve been eying?

To take advantage of the savings, stop by The Bike Shop at Urban AdvenTours at 109 Atlantic Avenue during our hours of operation (10:00 AM – 8:00 PM) on Saturday or Sunday to score a sweet deal on a new set of wheels and all our biking accessories.

You can also come visit us at the CambridgeSide Galleria on Sunday morning, August 15th, where we’ll be helping out with CYCLEKids’ awesome Run & Ride event. See you this weekend!

*Payment must be made on the day of purchase during the tax free weekend for the discount to apply.

Bike Friday this Friday! Hub on Wheels just around the corner

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

If you haven’t been to one of Boston Bikes Bike Fridays yet, you’re missing out. Join a horde of commuters pedaling into the city and enjoy free breakfast at the City Hall Plaza–all before the usual 9 am work day begins! There will be plenty of people–including the UA crew–hanging out, talking about bikes, and enjoying free food before returning to the daily grind.

We’ll also be able to take registrants for the Tour de Farms at City Hall Plaza. Sign-up on Friday or sooner to reserve your spot for this awesome annual agricultural ride. There are only two Bike Fridays left this summer, so make sure you don’t miss out on this morning party for people that love bikes.

It’s also not too early to start thinking about Hub on Wheels, the annual ride through the (car-free!) city streets of Boston. We’re currently taking reservations for hybrid rentals, and always encourage you to book early to for a discount and to guarantee we have a bike for you. There are three different distances available, so all types of riders are encouraged to participate in this unique event!

A major Trek and an adventurous Ride

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

This weekend there are two great rides raising money for great causes. This Friday is the beginning of the Tri-State Trek, a three-day long ride from Boston to New York to raise money for ALS research. Every summer people from all over the country come together to ride 270 miles through three states to raise money towards finding a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). It’s an inspiring ride to say the least.

Also this weekend, on Saturday, July 24 the Alzheimer’s Association is hosting their annual Memory Ride to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. They’ve currently reached just over half of their fundraising goal and are looking for more support.

For participants of both rides Urban AdvenTours is offering 10% of bike rentals AND 10% off pre-ride tune ups. Just mention that you’re a participant when reserving a bike or dropping yours off and we’ll make sure you get set up.

It’s supposed to be hot and sunny this weekend, so be sure to stay hydrated during your ride–whether it’s 270 miles or just to the grocery store and back.

Independence Day in Boston + Bikes

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Boston is America’s birthplace, so the festivities for America’s birthday are one-of-kind here. Our city bike tours take you by all of the famous landmarks from the American Revolution and our nation’s early beginnings–a perfect way to relive the exciting history from the time of the Boston Tea Party and Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride.

Here at UA we’re celebrating the Fourth by sponsoring another Paul Revere Ride to Freedom. The 25-mile ride covers many historic landmarks, since it takes riders all the way to Lexington and Concord via the Minuteman Bike Trail to see the battle greens where the first battles of the Revolutionary War occurred.

Looking for a way to watch the amazing fireworks display on the Charles River Esplanade, but don’t want to deal with the scores of people on the T? Rent one of our bikes to take less crowded side streets or to cross the river and watch the show from the less congested Cambridge banks.

There are a number of ways that Urban AdvenTours can help you maximize your Fourth of July in Boston. Whether you’re visiting and want to join all the festivities or whether you’re a local who wants to keep it low key, come ride with us for a “wheely” good time.

Bike Events Galore!

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

There’s a lot going on for Boston bikers this weekend, especially if you want to start your weekend on Thursday, like us.

We’re excited about the Zipcar sponsored Party for the PanMass Challenge at the Cask’n Flagon from 7-11 PM tomorrow. Entry to the party is free and there will be a raffle to raise money for the PMC, which is a ride that benefits cancer research and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. We’ll be there with a table and some gift certificates to raffle off, so stop by and say hi!

After spending the night partying for the PMC, wake up and get free breakfast courtesy of MassBikes’ Bike Friday at City Hall Plaza. Join one of the many convoys headed downtown, where there will be info from other bike-friendly businesses and lots of bike commuters celebrating their commitment to environmentally-friendly transportation.

The next day of the weekend brings another bike event. This Saturday is the second ride in the New England Bike MS series. The Cape Cod Getaway takes riders 150 miles in two days, from Boston Harbor to Provincetown. If you’re participating in the ride and need a bike rental we’ll give you 10% off. Just give us a call before you head into the shop so we can have it ready for you.

Sunday is the last day of the weekend, and brings one last event: the Cohasset Triathlon. We’ve got high end road bikes available for rent to help you get your fastest Tri time yet.

So spend the weekend getting out and doing fun bike stuff. After all, it’s officially summer now!

Plan an epic Father’s Day by bike

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Is your Dad a history buff? Into cycling or outdoor activities? This Father’s Day take him on our famous Paul Revere Ride to Freedom! It’s an exciting 25 mile ride that follows Paul Revere’s historic midnight ride from Boston’s North End into Lexington and Concord. Hit the scenic Minuteman Bike Way while one of our knowledgeable guides recounts the history of the beginning of the American Revolution right where it first happened over 200 years ago.

The first stop is at the Old North Church where the young patriots hung lanterns to warn of the British attack. Then you’ll venture to Charlestown to take a gander at the U.S.S. Constitution, the world’s oldest floating commissioned naval vessel.

The riding continues through Somerville and Medford to pick up the Minuteman Bike Trail and make stops at Lexington and Concord to see the first battle sites of the American Revolutionary War.

Urban AdvenTours appreciates Dads. We know that a nice morning ride is a great way to spend time together and enjoy the beautiful early summer weather, not to the mention the great history you’re going to experience. Since it’s a special edition tour that only happens a few times a year, make sure you book it soon!

Soak up the history of America’s birth from the saddle of one our bikes this Sunday to create and extraordinary Father’s Day experience.
