Biking into a tax free weekend!

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Looking to buy a bike? Now is the time.

In case you haven’t heard, this weekend in Massachusetts is tax free. That’s right–no tax on any goods you buy on Saturday or Sunday, August 14 and 15. To sweeten the deal of no tax, Urban AdvenTours is offering an extra discount on top of the tax free holiday. We will match the tax rate discount of 6.25% on any bike or accessory in the store. So that’s an extra 10-20% off* of anything in the shop! What better time to buy a bike or that Chrome bag you’ve been eying?

To take advantage of the savings, stop by The Bike Shop at Urban AdvenTours at 109 Atlantic Avenue during our hours of operation (10:00 AM – 8:00 PM) on Saturday or Sunday to score a sweet deal on a new set of wheels and all our biking accessories.

You can also come visit us at the CambridgeSide Galleria on Sunday morning, August 15th, where we’ll be helping out with CYCLEKids’ awesome Run & Ride event. See you this weekend!

*Payment must be made on the day of purchase during the tax free weekend for the discount to apply.

Party animals … err bikes!

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

If you missed the 14th Annual Redbones Bike Party and Benefit last night, you definitely missed out. There was live music, delicious Redbones BBQ, and lots of bike representation, and of course a keg biked over from our friends at Harpoon. We hung out with our bike crews from MassBikes, Geekhouse, Ciclismo Classico, NEMBA, The Bicycle Film Festival, and lots of other bike friendly organizations.

Riders leaving from Urban AdvenTours with their new “I ‘bike’ Somerville” shirts.

Leaving the store at 5:00, our tour guide, Greg, led a crew of excited bikers into Davis Square where the party was just beginning. Lots of people stopped by our tent to check out our signature I Bike Boston (and Somerville!) gear and our cool new map. Our head mechanic, Tim was working the crowd with free high-fives and stickers, courtesy of Urban AdvenTours.

Boston bikers and bike supporters came out in droves to celebrate and share their love for bikes. It doesn’t get much better than that. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Kick off Bike Month with Urban AdvenTours!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

As excited as we are for Boston and National Bike Week, we just couldn’t wait that long since all of May is Bike Month!

We’ll be celebrating this Sunday, May 2nd from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in our favorite park right across the street, Christopher Columbus Park.

So come on down to the North End and grab a free Sunday morning coffee from Equal Exchange. They’ll be hanging out along with our favorite bike buddies from MassBike, Boston Bikes and Livable Streets Alliance. All of our partners will have information about how to get more involved in the cycling community and well as information about bicyclist education and rider rights. Getting more people out on bikes safely and confidently is part of our mission and the first step is knowing the rules of the road. These exhibitors have some of the best resources for rider education and road user rights, so come meet them!

We’ll also have goodies from some of our favorite bike friendly businesses. For times when two wheels aren’t enough ZipCar can hook you up with car sharing, and they’ve even got eco-friendly hybrids to help you keep it green. There will also be some bite sized treats from Clifbar, so you can keep your energy up on your next epic ride.

In case that isn’t enough to get you out, we’ll be displaying our new line of bikes for your inspection. We’ll have a kid sized obstacle course race at 12 PM, a track stand competition at 2 PM and prizes from the Urban AdvenTours apparel closet. Sound good? See you Sunday!

There is Bike Share in Boston

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

You heard me right. It might not be the city’s program and it might not have a million satellites, but the basic idea is already in place with Urban Bike Share.

Bold? Risky? Nah, just think of it as a membership to a really cool bike program where you get great deals and can experience all the joys of cycling without having to own a bike. Here’s the basic breakdown:

- 10 or 22 Bike Bucks.
- Free guided tour of Boston to teach members the ins and outs of city riding.
- Discount on registration for Hub on Wheels.
- Donation to Livable Streets Alliance, Hub on Wheels, MassBike and Bikes Not Bombs.
- Discount on merchandise, tours, additional Bike Bucks and rental accessories.
- Lifetime discounted membership with Zipcar.
- E-newsletter full of updates on local bike events.

There are two tiers or membership, the 3-Speed and the 10-Speed with the 10-Speed providing more Bike Bucks. Bike Bucks are valued at one buck per 24 hour hybrid rental, which always includes a helmet and a lock.

We also want to make sure that our members are comfortable riding in the city and we offer suggested routes for all Urban Bike Share members. We’re all about promoting more bikes in Boston and hope to ensure safe, city-smart riding with our Bike Share.

“I already own a bike” you say? Urban Bike Share membership gives you access to our full fleet of bikes including those gorgeous Allezs for that first big charity ride or triathlon. Bike Bucks are also great for visiting friends or family who want to go ride with you. Membership also gets you discounts on our tours, to get those friends and family out of your hair, and on all our merchandise. Perhaps gifts for said family?

So don’t worry about storing a bicycle or even having to maintain it. We’ll take care of all of that. Just come ride with us and bring your family and friends.
