Hub on Wheels 2011: Recap

First of all, thank you to everyone involved for making this years Hub on Wheels one for the ages! Rain was out of the question and we were up at 6am getting out rental bikes for riders – from there the rest of the day was an exciting and smile-filled blur. We can’t imagine anything better than a day filled with bikes, bikers, professional crit racing; and all this right in our back yard. Thank you Boston for coming out and supporting cycling.

All of the riders that we spoke to said they had a great time riding down the closed Sorrow Drive on their way around the 10, 30, and 50 mile loops of Boston and its extended neighborhoods. Young and old, experienced and fresh we had all kinds of people on bikes and enjoying a beautiful morning together on two wheels.

We met so many fantastic people at our tent while doing the bike valet and getting our “I Bike Boston” gear to the masses. Thank you all for supporting our company and rocking our gear around town. It’s always great to see someone in an IBB shirt or riding with a sticker on their bike. Boston is certainly home to one of the best cycling communities out there.

Another huge congratulations to our one-and-only Dan Barry for refusing to heed the symptoms of a cold and absolutely kill the Mayor’s Cup Professional Criterium. Calling the ball at the last minute to start the race, Dan held on as half the competition fell off the back and got pulled. At the last minute getting tossed off the bike Dan slid into home just off the race pace. You killed it!

We hope to see you all next year for another great event!

Don’t forget to stop by our shop and keep us company as we are open all winter (almost) keeping you on the road and keeping the salt and rust of those chains. We have new winter gear and cyclocross bikes to keep that cycling-excitement alive all winter.

Until next year,

The UA Crew

Online Rental Discount

Book online now for a discounted rate of $30 dollars.

Have you been stickered?

We try to spread the love of cycling weekly by heading around town in the Bio Bus like bike-fairies dropping stickers and coupons on locals bikes. Don’t worry, we’re not applying them! Regardless, if you find yourself staring down at a sweet sticker upon the return to your ride, swing by the shop and we will hook you up with a nice little $5/off discount.

Remember that we are having a fall bike sale as well which starts at 10% off any 2011 bike in the store! We are also slashing prices of used hybrid and used road bikes. There is no better time of year to get a steal on a new set of wheels. If you already have a bike make sure to check out all of our fall gear from cycling jackets, gloves, booties, tights and more.

Show your love and we will show it back! Also, if you see the big green Bio Bus make sure to flag us down and we can hook you up with some schwag and throw some air in your tires if they need it. Have a flat and see the truck? Find us or call us and we can help you out in a pinch.

Hub on Wheels: Keeping the “Urban” in Urban Adventours

Attention, Boston bikers! Is Sunday, September 25th, 2011 highlighted, starred, sharpied, surrounded by exclamation points, or otherwise marked on your calendars? If not, mark it now: Hub On Wheels, Boston’s annual citywide bike ride, is scheduled for the last Sunday of September.  We all love Hub On Wheels because it turns Boston into a big, rolling community.

That's a lot of bikes

The Hub on Wheels event closes large swaths of Boston to cars, creating long biking routes through the city.  There are three main routes to choose from: a 10-mile, a 30-mile, and a 50-mile.

The routes all start from City Hall Plaza, where a bike festival will be ongoing all day long.  Naturally, Urban AdvenTours will be there, with our telltale green-fendered bicycles marking out our tent.  We’ll be well-stocked with our custom-made cargo bags, pocketed jerseys, and, of course, our famous I Bike Boston t-shirts, sweatshirts, and water bottles.

We’ll also be there to rent you bikes, of course!  We have a special discount available for participants in any Hub On Wheels events.  We’ll have both our standard Kona Dew hybrids, with the snazzy green fenders you see all over town, and a selection of Giant and Specialized road bikes. Call for reservations on road bikes.

The Mayor's Cup race

Even if you aren’t in the mood for a bike ride yourself, Hub On Wheels is still well worth checking out.  From City Hall Plaza you can watch the annual TD Bank Mayor’s Cup Professional Criterium Race.  Watch the best bikers in the city cut sharp corners in a tight, fast-paced race around Government Center.  It’s the height of cycling entertainment, and you can watch it right from the front lines!

So come out on September 25th and celebrate bikes at Boston’s annual Hub On Wheels.  And make sure to stop by Urban AdvenTours so you can tell the world, “I Bike Boston.”
