Are you ready to really bike Boston?

It’s been a great weekend of big tours and awesome rides. Sunday morning I delivered a bunch of bikes out to Topsfield for the Special Olympics of Massachusetts’ Ride with the Champions. This ride partners those with intellectual disabilities with athletic coaching and training to help then uncover all of their potential. It’s a great cause and Urban AdvenTours was happy to participate and we’ve even made our first appearance on some cycling jerseys.

First returnees after their route.

Now that we’ve headed back into the week, you can count on a bunch of preparation for Hub on Wheels. The big cycling celebration starts off on Saturday, September 26 with the first annual Mayor’s Cup, a professional race featuring U.S. Olympians and Champion riders. After the race the party continues with a concert and all kinds of local bike friendly vendors, and bike valet provided by yours truly.

Then Sunday, the 27th is the big ride when Storrow gets closed down and the whole city can come out and ride together. If you don’t have a bike we’ve still got rentals available, and what better time to come to show City Hall how important biking is to the development of Boston. What could be a better way to decrease traffic and pollution while increasing health and sustainability? We certainly think biking is the best answer.

Golden opportunities

The leaves are starting to do it. Just that extra hint of yellow when the sun hits them and the trees across from my parking space look gold. It’s getting time for cider and pumpkins and to do our part, the Urban AdvenTours team kicks off our Fall Foliage and Emerald Necklace ride this weekend. You probably didn’t hear it here first though. The Boston Globe has been saying some awfully nice things about us lately, using superlatives even.

Best New England Events!

Best Fall Foliage activities!

I will be stunningly beautiful to pedal through the Emerald Necklace, out by Jamaica Pond, down the promenade on Commonwealth Ave with the oranges, reds and yes, golds of the turning leaves.

The guides will be offering this great ride every day starting on this Saturday, September 19. Check our tour pages for more information or book a tour. We’ll see you under the leaves!

All signs point to yes, bikes!

What a busy weekend, possibly our busiest ever with big fun tours, heaps of rentals and perfect weather. We had families, visitors from afar, friends from down the street, and even a bachelorette party all come ride with us this past weekend.

Just another day with the Urban AdvenTours crew.

In other Boston cycling news, has any one seen the recent additions to the signage and roadways near the Museum of Science? Some nice bike markings on the street as well as some brilliant signs alerting drivers that cyclists may make full use of the lane. Really really great way to keep drivers from honking at or tailing bikes in that busy area.

Kinda like this, but rectangular and white:

Do you have photos of some of Boston’s recent bike friendly improvements? The new lane on Columbus Ave? The repaving and addition of lanes near the Harvard Stadium? We’d love to see you biking Boston, so send them our way or tweet them to @UrbanAdvenTours.

Coming up this weekend are some other fantastic cycling events too, both for a great causes. There’s the Harbor to the Bay ride to benefit those living with AIDS on Saturday, September 12 and A Reason to Ride on Sunday, September 13 to raise funds for cancer research. If you need to rent a bike for any of these events you know where to find us, kickin’ it across the street from good ole Christopher Columbus park.
